Rose Crescent by judithg

Rose Crescent

@rich57 says you don't need big puddles and he turns out to be absolutely correct. He failed to mention the hazard of dangling your camera strap in the puddle however. Autumn would appear to be arriving rapidly. I love September in Cambridge - post language students and coach parties and pre-undergraduate arrivals so it's a lovely quiet time to visit if you're interested! And usually it's still warm and sunny..... Still - it's not here yet! I edited this to blur out the people but went back to this one partly because I like the bike - any views - should I have gone blurry?
3 Positives: 1. It's bin night tonight and we still have party rubbish to get rid of!
2. I like my photo today.
3. School Tweeted and it sound alike they are having a lovely sunny time in Iceland.
Fabulous - and no, the people are great :)

I like the fact that you can't see the source of the reflection! Didn't really notice the blur. Great POV too and the two people look so small!
August 30th, 2012
Oooohhhhh! Wonderful puddle shot Judith! Am so inspired by @rich57 and @johnnyfrs puddle shots but all my puddles up here seem to be muddy!! Fav!
August 30th, 2012
I think your going blurry was a great idea. This photo is really fabulous. I have to get out and do some puddle shots.
August 30th, 2012
Awesome shot - love it, its is great we have such people like @rich57 to inspire us
August 30th, 2012
Very great! :D
August 30th, 2012
I think it's great the way it is. I especially like that you didn't include in the frame the actual building. Makes it interesting.
August 30th, 2012
I think this is a fabulous shot and now am going to look up @rich57 and then look for a puddle - it's pouring with rain..........Oh thunder as well now.
August 30th, 2012
Great shot - and walked down here about 4hours ago!
August 30th, 2012
Excellent reflection!
August 30th, 2012
@tishpics No?! Must have passed each other!
August 30th, 2012
@quietpurplehaze Oh yes - you're in for a treat of puddles - you need @johnnyfrs as well!
August 30th, 2012
This is so excellently composed, even confusing at first glance. Fav!
August 30th, 2012
I love it. Wonderfully composed. FAV
August 30th, 2012
@judithg I was thinking of looking out for you and taking a picture of you taking a picture! On my way to White Stuff with daughter and then to Heffers!
August 30th, 2012
Non-blurry is the perfect choice. What a cool puddle shot. Looks like we have the same weather again. I am actually glad that autumn is arriving fast, summer was really killing me. I'd love to visit Cambridge in September or actually any month in the year and I'm quite sad my trip to Oxford (and Cambridge) won't work out. But the baby is more important right now and I will be back some day soon!
August 30th, 2012
@tishpics Well you'd have spotted me crouched down by the puddle, strap in the water and dog in tow! Grotty day in Cambridge but the evening is rather nice.
August 30th, 2012
@jannaellen You'll just have to come over with baby - I can do cuddling!
August 30th, 2012
@judithg I think I would have noticed you then!! Nice evening here near Sudbury and better weather here today than in Cambridge according to husband. Only slight rain for 15 mins!
August 30th, 2012
Totally awesome. Glad you left it as is. The curvy reflection is marvelous as are the people and bike. September tends to be fabulous here too
August 30th, 2012
@judithg Well I've discovered a serious impediment to puddle-photo- shooting - getting up again!
August 30th, 2012
@jgpittenger It's funny that the crescent is easier to capture in the puddle than of itself. I can just imagine your Autumn colours - looking forward to your pics! @quietpurplehaze Yep - you can always lean on the dog I find!
August 30th, 2012
@judithg I'm sure that won't be much help!!
August 30th, 2012
great POV!! i always think I want to get a good shot like this but never seem to remember when it rains! ha. great shot!
August 30th, 2012
Great puddle shot! I wouldn't have blurred and, like another comment above, I like that the building is shown in the buddle, but not in the top half of the photo.
August 30th, 2012
Great puddle shot with fabulous reflections. I think you did the right thing not to blur the people
August 30th, 2012
Fantastic! Love the curved line of buildings!
August 30th, 2012
Nice curves in that puddle there. btw Am still coming down on the 11th if you're around and staying at some hotel in town. The Royal Cambridge or something. Is it nice?
August 30th, 2012
@fueast You're in my diary - let me know when's a good time and if you've got time for beer/dinner!! I've never been in The Royal Cambridge but it's VERY close to Engineering. Haven't heard anything terrible about it.
August 30th, 2012
@judithg Given the way things have been I'm sure I will be abandoned to get my own beer and dinner - which is fine as long as they pay! I'll check it out with them nearer the time.
August 30th, 2012
Nice reflection shot!
August 30th, 2012
@fueast I'm easy so I'll keep it open for different eventualities!
August 30th, 2012
Fantastic puddle shot - love the people at the top!
August 30th, 2012
Wonderful reflections and a great pov.
August 30th, 2012
very good picture! well done Judith ;)
August 30th, 2012
Oh great reflections. Wonderful shot
August 30th, 2012
I like it a lot. Love how you composed it. Love the bright colors up at the top which brighten up the rather drab colors in the rest to the composition.
August 30th, 2012
faved from France, (un)fortunately we're having great weather so no puddle shots! Just lots of poolside time!
August 30th, 2012
@heatherwatters @megsy thanks for the compliments, blushing right now!
August 30th, 2012
I love this shot. It caught my eye straight away and held my interest. On the one hand blurring the people would have concentrated the reflection as the subject of the picture, but I also like the top half, which could also make a picture in itself.
August 30th, 2012
@rich57 Tout alors - fav de France ... Magnifique! No sympathy about lack of puddles mind you. Gone a bit Oasis in your profile pic!
August 30th, 2012
now this is cool, nice job young lady
August 30th, 2012
@sarasdadandmom Ooooh -keep going with the young!
August 30th, 2012
really interesting puddle shot. fav!
August 30th, 2012
YOWSA!!! That's one great puddle shot!
August 30th, 2012
Wonderful reflections,a super shot!!
August 30th, 2012
Beautiful reflections.
August 30th, 2012
Awesome reflection!
August 31st, 2012
Big Fav! This is superb, Judith! I think the focus is perfect.
August 31st, 2012
Great capture Judith. The reflection looks almost below street level. Fav!
August 31st, 2012
Be careful when it's raining cats and dogs not to step in the poodles.
August 31st, 2012
Well I am way behind on this one!! Puddles are the thing at the moment and I haven't tried a single one yet! Fancy getting a fave from @rich57 from France.....your roving reporter sitting poolside! lol I love the way that the reflections are the subject in focus but you can't see the real thing...good idea on the blur effect. So that is Oasis and Blur in the same post!!
August 31st, 2012
I agree with Cherrill, plus I love the curve of the reflected building, makes it very interesting.
August 31st, 2012
You've got so many nice comments that you may never reach this one, but I just wanted to thank you for your message and also to say that I'm beginning to fall in love with puddle pictures! Little chance of that here in SW France. Still, it could be a strange reason for being happy to return to Yorkshire in October!!!
August 31st, 2012
You need a plastic bag that's what I use, cool reflection
August 31st, 2012
@julieco October/November were great months for me - the Autumn weather was brilliant for photos - not sure it will compensate for the South of France though! And I'm from Lancashire originally so I can only sympathise with a return to Yorkshire ;0)
August 31st, 2012
Great reflection...Urmm you chose it because you 'just liked the bike'...might now be time for that jacket with the straps and buckles...
August 31st, 2012
Lovely puddle shot Judith.....I have tried but to no avail...I think I need buildings and a 'strong' subject, rather than sparse landscape.
August 31st, 2012
Brilliant shot - I love the upside down houses so clear in the puddle. Love it as it is.
August 31st, 2012
The curve of building in puddle, otherwise out of sight, is wonderfully visual picking up on the cues we see unconsciously in our worlds
August 31st, 2012
Excellent shot Judith.
August 31st, 2012
Love it! The reflection is so clear, well-spotted!
August 31st, 2012
beautiful
August 31st, 2012

I love this reflection shot, I love your positives!
September 1st, 2012

September 1st, 2012

September 2nd, 2012
Fabulouso!!
September 2nd, 2012
Kim
superb reflection shot, well done!!
September 2nd, 2012
Such clarity in the reflections!
September 4th, 2012
Very nice with the olde worlde light and curving building line.
September 6th, 2012
Oh wow. I especially like that the reflection isnt just a mirror of the scene...very cool
September 6th, 2012
Judith, this is very much in the same genre / style of you 'trinity lane' shot from 'next week' (talking in the future tense about an image seems strange !!!!).

The curves in the reflection right into the corner make for a perfect composition
September 6th, 2012
@phil_howcroft Yep - I think that's why I went mad on the processing with the other one.
