@rich57 says you don't need big puddles and he turns out to be absolutely correct. He failed to mention the hazard of dangling your camera strap in the puddle however. Autumn would appear to be arriving rapidly. I love September in Cambridge - post language students and coach parties and pre-undergraduate arrivals so it's a lovely quiet time to visit if you're interested! And usually it's still warm and sunny..... Still - it's not here yet! I edited this to blur out the people but went back to this one partly because I like the bike - any views - should I have gone blurry?
3 Positives: 1. It's bin night tonight and we still have party rubbish to get rid of!
2. I like my photo today.
3. School Tweeted and it sound alike they are having a lovely sunny time in Iceland.
I think this is a fabulous shot and now am going to look up @rich57 and then look for a puddle - it's pouring with rain..........Oh thunder as well now.
@judithg I was thinking of looking out for you and taking a picture of you taking a picture! On my way to White Stuff with daughter and then to Heffers!
Non-blurry is the perfect choice. What a cool puddle shot. Looks like we have the same weather again. I am actually glad that autumn is arriving fast, summer was really killing me. I'd love to visit Cambridge in September or actually any month in the year and I'm quite sad my trip to Oxford (and Cambridge) won't work out. But the baby is more important right now and I will be back some day soon!
@tishpics Well you'd have spotted me crouched down by the puddle, strap in the water and dog in tow! Grotty day in Cambridge but the evening is rather nice.
@judithg I think I would have noticed you then!! Nice evening here near Sudbury and better weather here today than in Cambridge according to husband. Only slight rain for 15 mins!
@jgpittenger It's funny that the crescent is easier to capture in the puddle than of itself. I can just imagine your Autumn colours - looking forward to your pics! @quietpurplehaze Yep - you can always lean on the dog I find!
Great puddle shot! I wouldn't have blurred and, like another comment above, I like that the building is shown in the buddle, but not in the top half of the photo.
Nice curves in that puddle there. btw Am still coming down on the 11th if you're around and staying at some hotel in town. The Royal Cambridge or something. Is it nice?
@fueast You're in my diary - let me know when's a good time and if you've got time for beer/dinner!! I've never been in The Royal Cambridge but it's VERY close to Engineering. Haven't heard anything terrible about it.
@judithg Given the way things have been I'm sure I will be abandoned to get my own beer and dinner - which is fine as long as they pay! I'll check it out with them nearer the time.
I like it a lot. Love how you composed it. Love the bright colors up at the top which brighten up the rather drab colors in the rest to the composition.
I love this shot. It caught my eye straight away and held my interest. On the one hand blurring the people would have concentrated the reflection as the subject of the picture, but I also like the top half, which could also make a picture in itself.
Well I am way behind on this one!! Puddles are the thing at the moment and I haven't tried a single one yet! Fancy getting a fave from @rich57 from France.....your roving reporter sitting poolside! lol I love the way that the reflections are the subject in focus but you can't see the real thing...good idea on the blur effect. So that is Oasis and Blur in the same post!!
You've got so many nice comments that you may never reach this one, but I just wanted to thank you for your message and also to say that I'm beginning to fall in love with puddle pictures! Little chance of that here in SW France. Still, it could be a strange reason for being happy to return to Yorkshire in October!!!
@julieco October/November were great months for me - the Autumn weather was brilliant for photos - not sure it will compensate for the South of France though! And I'm from Lancashire originally so I can only sympathise with a return to Yorkshire ;0)
Judith, this is very much in the same genre / style of you 'trinity lane' shot from 'next week' (talking in the future tense about an image seems strange !!!!).
The curves in the reflection right into the corner make for a perfect composition
