OK so 9pm last night says everything about our age. Rachel was in the pub meeting up with old school friends, Adam was out partying and Nigel and I were drinking hot chocolate at Anglesey Abbey.... But although our night out was tame (and cold) it did involve lots of fancy lighting as being enjoyed by this little girl. There was a photography club out in force with tripods and headlamps and remote shutters and blimey was it photographically challenging (although the best photo of this scene I've seen was taken on an iPhone with the panorama app). I found everything tended to overexpose so I had to knock that right back and then I found you had to adjust the settings for every scenario and (without a headlamp) I couldn't see the settings buttons. Also I couldn't see the frame of the viewfinder and had accidentally pressed a button which meant that I couldn't use the screen. And even if I could have seen the buttons I didn't know which one to press to correct it! On top of all that I found I was blinded by the function screen when I put my eye to the viewfinder AND I didn't have a tripod with me. Still - I bet the photography club got some cracking shots!! And it was a lovely experience.
Oooo my favourite colour! And it's a small comfort to know that people who are much more technically adept than me, occasionally face their own challenges! Magical shot!
super. I tried Syon park last year and sooo identify with everything you say. And I had a brand new tripod which I didnt know how to put up in thedark .
Well done
@june That reminds me of being very very pregnant and noticing a couple getting off a coach with a very new baby and a pram and not being able to put the pram up - we did a lot of practise before we left home with ours!
I wish I'd known it was on - although we were busy last night. I took this same view earlier in the year, but it looks terrific with the lighting. Well done for trying - sounds like quite a challenge.
Well, this came out stunningly. Best viewed large so you can really see her expression. I have just learned I can control the ISO on my point and shoot - so more things to play with. This little camera has a lot in its little package. I can't imagine having a "real" camera and having to cope with all that!
I'm wel jel Judith! I didn't realise that you needed tickets, until Saturday early morning and by then they were sold out!! As you know Sunday was out, so maybe next year. Nice colourful shot though.
@lesleyallen Well we didn't have tickets (I didn't realise either) - we turned up at 7.30 and theyet us in no prob. I think they wouldn't have let us in at 6 as it was packed then - we passed them all on the way out. Top to for next year - don't go at 6 - ruin your photos completely!
I know exactly how you feel, that sounds like one of my photographic scenarios! I love Anglesey Abbey, and those white birch trees in particular, looking a bit different in purple!! GREAT shot!
Stunning! How perfect for the song title!! Well done, Judith.
Your evening sounds perfectly delightful...I am so not into the party scene in my older age. I'm happy to be the designated babysitter. :)
Judith. i photographed some lit up trees at the brass band concert on the Nottingham Arboretum yesterday ...it's so difficult hand held without a tripod .... coolio shot
Striking pic
Well done
