I've been back and forth with B&W and colour in this shot and still can't decide if it's the right decision. Taken at the 'Town and Country Show on Parker's Piece - it's like a cross between a glorified school fete and an inadequate country show with big horses, tiny horses (super cute but so short the pen precluded photos), goats & hens to give the farm vibe but fun for a walk around - except that I had to walk round three times trying to find a sweet stall as a promise to Adam. And then I decided to to walk back via the Sunday market and accidentally gave a busker £1 instead of 50p - a token effort because he was pretty bad but singing a song I like - which meant that I only had £1.70 on me and the cheapest sweet thing on the market was £1.99. Anyway the photo - Bedfordshire steam enthusiasts - lots of steamy things from tiny to huge and a collection chiefly of men of a certain age swarming around them, with one exception (2 if you count me).
Three good things:
1. Run with Rachel before breakfast and I'm still alive.
2. Nearly 3 hours walking with Monty this afternoon.
3. I still have use of my legs (tomorrow may be another story).
This is fabulous. fav for sure. I love the b and w and the steam and the couple leaning over it checking it out...their posture and her bag really make the shot
I'd say b&w was definitely the right decision - gives this a timeless feel. I really love the moment you captured - a fav for me :). I feel sorry for Adam that he didn't get any sweets after all. And I'm really proud of your energy - wow!
She looks exactly like Susannah York & this could be a film set too...black & white definitely the right choice giving it a vintage look! Just noticed your title, how clever you are !!!
@fueast@happypat Just Googled Susannah York and I hope the lady doesn't get wind of this discussion because she's a good 25 years too young - maybe she's her daughter!
When in doubt, always err on the side of B&W. :-) Haven't seen the color version, but love this pic as is. I think B&W works very well for this image - nice job!
really great shot - B&W the way to go with vintage items...I hope Rachel made you do lots of stretching when you got back...hope you don't ache too much tomorrow - I shall be looking in to check up!
monochrome works well here judith...although traction engines usually have nice vibrant colours to capture .....I like the "waft" of smoke / steam coming out of the funnel
They are so enthusiastic these steam people and they do a great job together!
And one has to love steam enthusiasts. They're of a type Bedfordshire does rather well.
