Just a quick upload as we are not long home and I've just had a quick look at my photos. As usual it's not always easy to take photos while on holiday with the family as they don't want to be stopping every two minutes. Also I seriously misjudged the technical difficulties of photography during the summer equinox (and also because we've forgotten what sun looks like in Cambridge!) But I've just found myself pleasantly surprised by this shot - we did a steep, sweaty walk (>36*C) up to the Piazzale Michelangelo which culminates in a shadeless car park - but one with amazing views over Florence. I snapped a few quick shots before phoning a taxi to take us back to the hotel pronto (infuriating everybody waiting at the taxi stand in the process). I've only now noticed all the details - I stood right by the wall outside the Uffizi Gallery (rhs) but didn't notice the football pitch beneath. The main bridge is, of course, the famous Ponte Vecchio. I'll try and stitch together two or three other shots to give a fuller panorama.
Judith this is so fab, are those houses on the bridge? I can't wait to see more of them. I know what you mean about the sun, you just hope for the best. I went to Riminni when I was 18, would love to back and this reminds me so much of it.
Red roofs as I imagined there to be...i would just long to go to Florence but wouldn't be up Harrys street at all....no cows!!
That front bridge is just amazing, all those little jutting out houses....Ponte Vecchio, I will remember!
We have had some sun ourselves while you have been away strangely but back to normal wet tonight!! Have missed your daily photos!
@happypat Took me a while to find the love actually Pat - extremely hot and somehow 'bigger city' than I imagined - but it really grew on me when we got out and about a bit
I wondered what happened to you but now I remember you were getting so excited about Florence! We tend to go on living routine lives and never think! This is really a Florencian scene!
what wonderful lines and colors. You've been missed. Glad they let you take a few pictures! Maybe you could remind Adam and Rachel re how many times you stopped and waited while they checked out bugs, flowers, pieces of gum on the ground when they were toddlers!
Wonderfully captured, brilliant postcard shot. Like the hazy soft feel to this. Brings back memories, 5 days there but, for me, long enough. Curiously I found everything so beautiful I started to long for a little ugliness somewhere!
Stunnung landscspe cityscape judith. Great write up too. Did u get the footie pitch ...would love to dee that too. Btw i notice ur slmist up to 2000 pics, got to be a special one for two thousand :-)
great shot here Judith - I loved Florence when we went, only had a really crappy camera then and no really good photos - I love this vista - though it is a hot and sweaty hike up there at this time of year!
