We had an astrantia in a pot for about 3 years and it was looking quite sorry for itself so last year when we dug out a new flower bed I decided to give it a shot in the ground. In fact it was very root bound so with some difficulty I split it in two and planted the two halves. And they both went absolutely bonkers. In fact I am going to split them and move them to the back of the bed as as they are too big to be at the front. The bees have arrived in force and I dug out my macro attachment thing - not very good and then went with my zoom lens - much better. I gave Nigel a choice of two shots and then chose my own - focus not quite spot on in his choice - don't know why I ask him really.
Thanks so much for putting my cat pic on PP - I was very surprised it was so popular - possibly because Monty got 'jumped' by an aggressive black cat just afterwards - it shot out of a hedge with teeth and claws bared and we had to cross the road quick as it was bracing itself for another attack. Poor Monty yelped and looked a bit stunned but serves him right for all the cats he's chased up garden paths.
Three GT
1. My Great Auntie Marjorie is 90 today
2. I weeded the strawberry patch and fund lots of ripe strawberries
3. Nothing of any interest happened - which is better than something bad happening...
A really lovely shot, this is a flower that I have not been able to grow ,which is a shame because it presses beautifully . Btw if you want a laugh look at my pic Of Helens chubby little knees .
haha, I understand your comment on mine now! The focus on the bee is better in this one tho. Any good book recommendations? - I have just finished Iain Banks' latest/last - loved it, and very interesting/sad given the circumstances.
@jantan Flower not as pretty though... We all enjoyed Far from the Tree (Andrew Solomon) - a massive tome but very enlightening and we enjoyed the Maggie O'Farrell. Alan Johnson's autobiography next time, a book called Hive by Jane (?) Hornby and 'Where'd you go Bernadette?' by Maria Semple - can't go wrong with a black comedy about motherhood can you??
I'm not surprised your cat PP'd. There's a bizarre legion of people out there who must actively search for 'cat' tagged pictures. I posted a picture of the inlaws cat a few months back and it had loads more views than my norm (which admittedly is pretty few!).
Whenever I let JB choose my photo he gets it wrong, too.
I think we ask other people so we can defend our choice and then feel much better about it. :)
