Feeling a bit grumpy about this one - it was a toss up between going to an Elizabethan Pageant in Cambridge (celebrating 400 years since Queen Elizabeth I visited the city) and Stourbridge Fair at the Leper Chapel. In the end I plumped for the Leper Chapel because it wasn't really clear exactly when and where the pageant was happening. But in the end Stourbridge Fair was a tad disappointing and I've seen amazing pics of QE1. Ah well you win some and lose some - though it's a long wait till the next big anniversary of the queen's visit so I think I've blown it :0( Tambourine lady was a little scary - I think she may be seen around town with a guitar at the weekends.
Oh dear, yes all looks a bit tame and slightly suspect - weird middle class older ladies (and the odd gent) with too much time on their hands do mediaeval... Shame you can get really good re-enactors.
@boxplayer I think the thunder of the fair had probably been stolen by the pageant to be fair - only so many people in a town with costumes. The one bloke in the dance had told his much younger work colleagues who were standing up on the bank next to me (staying out of the way with dog in my case) and trying not to laugh too obviously and pointing out that the dance was, in fact, 'just walking'!
