Conker by judithg

Conker

So my chestnut hen is rather nervous but she comes out of the henhouse with Amber in the mornings now instead of staying inside all day and she rather seems to enjoy scratching around outside. It's interesting watching the body language. This morning the two new hens were eating and Betty went running up in a 'clear off' kind of way so they both immediately turned round and looked in the other direction. Betty (who didn't actually want food herself) then wandered off and the new girls eventually turned back to the food. Amber, who is braver, is much quicker to turn round and carry on whereas Conker does her 'I'm looking this way, not interested in food or in challenging you' thing for much longer. But she is a great flier and I wish I hadn't had my lens zoomed out as she took off and flew across the hen area this afternoon - I will be ready next time. I should clip her wings but it's handy for her to get out of the way of the others and she's getting bigger and heavier anyway.
Good news - I've lost 2lb. Other good news I'm baking a lemon drizzle (using the new baby eggs). These two things may lead to bad news...
PS We are hoping that that brown beak means we'll get brown eggs!
Nice profile shot! Great focus!

She looks a beautiful bird....slightly wary still by the look of her.....hard being a new girl! It's interesting to watch the combs grow bigger & turn red, she will be such a pretty girl then. You lost two pounds...I darent even weigh myself these days! Still same dress size but tighter in the wrong places! Are you on the 5/2 diet. My B&B lady is on that & she says she has lost weight on it.

She still looks young with that small comb so there will be lots to watch for in the coming months. I know exactly what you mean with the hens body language - its so funny to observe. If you weigh yourself right at the beginning of the day before even that cup of tea - its actually quite pleasing! Just don't weigh yourself at any other time during the day!

Such an intense stare on such a beautiful hen. Looks like you're quite busy with your chicken family! Congrats on the weight loss even though I still think you don't need it. Hope you get to enjoy some of that drizzle without having to think twice about it :).
