I spent one of the most stressful days in a long time interviewing people for a big job. The weight of responsibility was only lightened by having a really fantastic panel to work with. We all came away with huge(r) pride in the staff and pupils of the school. There is an art event on in Cambridge at the moment and one of the exhibits is on display in the school. It's called '14 yard apology' and it's 14 yard sticks long with text describing the guilt that the artist felt at putting his toe down 6ft before the end of his 14 yard swimming badge that he earned in the school pool. He used that guilt to modify his actions later in life even though in the scheme of things it was a minor incident. I still feel guilty about finding 50p on the pavement and keeping it and then seeing (from he backseat of the car) three other little girls looking for it and crying.
I wish you luck, Judith. Rules are made to be broken; it's sometimes the only way to get near the truth, but people sitting on panels sadly do not always appreciate that your truth might have more substance than that defined by the formula they are bound to follow.
I guess we have all done this in our lives at one time or another! But we do know what it is like to feel guilt! Some people have been brought up with absolutely no conscience at all and they are the dangerous ones!
