Indian summer by judithg

Indian summer

This half term seems to be especially busy for some reason - not doing anything special just work etc. I nipped Monty off to Newnham though so that he'd have a decent walk and it was a beautiful day. I had a few photos I could post but these different leaves - green and pink - took my fancy. In the end we had a power cut all evening - it came on periodically for just long enough to blow out all the candles and then it went off again until some time after bed time.
You are very avant-garde, Judith. I've just been hearing tonight on TV news about the possibility of power cuts this winter...... Like the detail and semi-transparent effect of the pale green leaf.

@quietpurplehaze well I panicked a bit because I blew a light fitting earlier on and had not long reset our fuses and then the whole street went dark! Turned out to be a faulty underground cable but I've got more candles in just in case what they say about this winter comes true!

@judithg

Mmmm, yes,I have nightlights in the house always but it's the cooking that bothers me as we don't have gas and those little stoves always seem a bit unstable to me. Only so many nights you want to visit the fish 'n chip shop!

@quietpurplehaze I discovered that proper old fashioned tall thin candles give much more light that night lights for some reason - but I don't have enough candlesticks to put them in!

I wonder what caused your power cut. I think Peter is secretly looking forward to a winter of power cuts, as we have our new wood stove (must take a photo of it soon) in place now which will keep us toasty warm. Like your composition.

@busylady well it's one way to cut bills but it I was cursing that I hadn't downloaded my Kindle book on to my iPad - easier than reading by bicycle light!

I saw cand,se on sale today in Booths...a sign of things to come apparently! I can gloat a little as we are all set up,with camping lights which I bought from Blacks in the sale three years ago ....an oil Aga which works when the electric is off & wood burning stove. You are thinking now..smug little devil & I am!! @busylady Peter is right to gloat, we are forward thinking ...Judith get organised with a wood burner which has a hot plate on top...you will not look back!
I like your hand behind this...gives a really nice background that shows off thei pretty leaf. Interesting bites in the leaf....Autumn Watch would probably tell us what has eaten it.

@happypat I'll be round to yours Pat! So long as you've go rice cubes for the gin. Grateful for our gas hob but amazing how many people had decent lights in their rooms - better get camping lights! That's another tree behind the leaf - not clever enough to think of putting my hand behind....
