Stand back - she's gonna blow!

Well Nigel is 50 today and my original plan to get out with the dog and back by the time he finished karate training went slightly to pot when I realised we had NO CAKE. I set about making a new recipe which turned out to have an unfathomable amount of cornflour in it so I had to get dressed (around noon!) and headed out to the good old Co-Op. At one point I think I inhaled some of the dreaded stuff and had a terrible coughing fit, eventually dragging myself into the lounge to alert Adam that I might actually die. He did at least lever himself off the sofa and get a glass of water for me. It's happened again since so obviously now I'm convinced it's whooping cough. Anyway out to the river a bit later than planned. Nice owners with this dog who asked if I'd 'got her'. I answered in the affirmative but complained that she doesn't get her head wet while swimming and they agreed that that would make a more dramatic photo - people after my own heart! Also they had a very chatty little boy and reminded me that I used to have one of those.
Another lovely thing - a big Facetime chat with Rachel in Martinique - she called for Nigel but he was out. Also out tonight with friends which will be fun. Really sorry about lack of commenting - hoping I'll feel well again tomorrow and normal service will resume. I'm really not complaining as we have discovered that one of Nigel's old friends who we have rather lost contact with but have huge affection for is very ill indeed - and his response has been to do a 30 mile commando run that he first ran when he became a navy medic. It only took him 40 min longer than last time even with chemo every two weeks and 25 years on the clock.
Happy Birthday to Nigel .............he shares a birthday with my husband who has just turned 57.......... Hope your cake has turned out OK and your coughing has calmed!

"Went slightly to pot..." You add pot to your cake mix? No wonder people enjoy them!

Love your little commentary on Life with Judith! Its as good as your photos and makes me smile! Happy birthday to Nigel - half a century - lets hope for the other half! This looks like a Golden Retriever with a ball in his mouth (quite usual) and shaking his head after swims - compulsory with that breed!
