I'm a bit disappointed with my 'across the river' firemen photos - I either had to straighten them and spoil the composition or they were out of focus. Must have been distracted. Anyway the poor guys in the water (not young!) must have been both freezing and exhausted. There is a sluice gate by the river here so there is lots of turbulent water and the yellow chaps were entering into the fast water, being washed downriver and then being 'rescued' by the others. I say 'rescued' in inverted commas because they never actually got removed from the water - they were dropped back in again and had to be 'rescued' again. The sticking the leg out appeared to be an official technique.
Sunday must be practice day as we saw a large team at the leisure centre in Garstang practising something.....not as impressive as this one though!!
I like the deft way he is clinging on to the guys legs...a very serious & difficult manoeuvre obviously!!
Thank goodness they do spend their time going through these routines , ready for any eventuality! Good catch Judith!!
I sure know that disappointed feeling when you've got a great opportunity, it looks good on the back of the camera, and when you see it on the computer an involuntary groan comes out. You have this wonderfully composed and the focus isn't too off
Poor yellow chap. Know what you mean about spoiling a composition when straightening, it's infuriating! This looks great to me straight and fab composition.
Fantastic shot of the rescue training, Judith. These guys really work hard to be prepared for any situation. I like the leg out anchoring system...I'd feel better with a rope tether as well. But I'm a bit of a sissy. :)
it's a good candid shot of the training exercise judith ......shooting on a long zoom requires quite fast shutter speeds .....i found i had the same problem with some of my shots today...i had quite a few 'blurries' to delete
Geez I sure hope his boot is tight!!! My firemen friends are such brave souls - living on a main road, I see some horrible accidents - and I know these men and women are dealing directly with the most terrible things you can imagine and I applaud their courage and their selflessness.
Well I was hoping for a few muscle-y close-ups Judith - can you try and put this right another time please - I know Lucy Dolittle would be quite enthusiastic too @lucypics. However, disappointment put aside, this is a brilliant shot and quite comical in its way! All very interesting though.
