We had to take my daughter to a school function tonight. I hate driving at night especially when it's raining. I was so glad my husband was able to come along and drive and of course keep me company. I had fun taking pictures the whole way. I used a lower shutter speed and moved the camera. I thought this one turned out pretty cool.
This did turn out cool! Love all the colours. I was thinking about your daughter and how she takes violin--my daughter has decided she wants to give the violin a try. Any tips? (earplugs for beginners, lol)
@clarissajohal I sit in Gracie's room every night and listen to her play and read a book. I've been doing that every night since she started 4 years ago. She feels supported and I enjoy the music and a chance to relax, and know I will miss it once she's grown up and not here. She actually almost quit shortly after beginning in 4th grade, but we encouraged her and said we'd miss hearing her, and she stuck it out. Now it's such a part of her. I've never forced her to practice though, because if they really want to learn and enjoy it, you won't have to. I hope it works out!
@julie Thanks! I was just checking online, it looks like renting an instrument isn't as cost effective in the long run as actually buying one. I've never bought a musical instrument before--it's kind of intimidating! So many to choose from....
@clarissajohal We rented-to-own one from a local music store. Then we can trade it in, as she grows for a larger size. We ordered one on-line once and it was junk so be careful. Gracie's advice to your daughter is to get a shoulder rest, use good rosin (jade or gold) which is more expensive though, and don't be afraid to put a little pressure on the strings with the bow. Not too much, but not too light either, that makes the best sound and less screech. Play with confidence.
