Ant feast

There were lots of ants enjoying Ivy flower nectar today. I'm not sure but I think they are Lasius fuliginosus or Jet Ants
Wow, interesting photo. Is it common for them to cover flowers such as these?

Fabulous close up, so many ants on one flower. They look quite big.

@onewing @tahoemb - they aren't actually that big! They just look big because I've gone in close. They are about 5-6 mm long

@thewatersphotos - like most ants they are mostly carnivorous but they are also partial to a bit of sweet nectar and ivy flowers have a lot at this time of year. I've seen a few other photos that others have taken of them dong this so I guess it can't be that unusual
