Tucked away for the winter

This is a door snail which I found tucked away under a piece of bark on a dead tree. It is so snugly placed that it almost looks like a living fossil. Their name come from the door like structure they have which enables them to close off the hole in the shell to protect their soft bodies from their beetle predators.
