Wetlands

Oh it is lovely when the rain stops, the clouds thin out a bit, and the sun comes out for a while. This is the RSPB reserve at Ham Wall looking beautiful. The male Bitterns are just beginning to practice their "booming" .... although so far it's more of a croaking groan. They have to exercise their muscles a bit to achieve the resonant call they will need to attract the females
Magnificent capture

never heard a bittern, seems one day I will have to visit that reserve.

@rvm the booming will be going strong and will carry on through to May. Well worth a visit. It's one of the few places left where you can hear cuckoos too. There are also a pair of glossy ibis that have over-wintered there and they're hoping they'll breed this year.
