Bloody-nosed beetle

This beetle is so called because it secretes a foul tasting blood red liquid from its nose if its threatened by a predator. I like its enormous feet!

@jesika2 I think they are fairly common in the south of the UK but I don't know how far up the country they go

@julienne1 Just checked, they DO live up here but only at Nosterfield which is the Lower Ure Conservation Trust's site. Not one I'm familiar with, but wait until July when I go seeking England's rarest moth which lives 6 miles away from me. Back from the brink with a vengence. 6!!! counted in 2015. Huge conservation preservation campaign, 26 & 26 peak numbers 2016/7 & I found 13 over 3 trips. Wonderful Dark Bordered Beauty.
