Slime Mould by julienne1

Slime Mould

This weird stuff is growing over grass in the woods. It's Mucilago crustacea or more commonly known as ‘Dog sick fungus’ (although it's not a fungus). Slime moulds are not classed as animals, plants or fungi. They are primitive single celled organisms – like Amoebae. They feed on bacteria in the ground and they may even be beneficial for plants by consuming harmful bacteria and pathogens.
Great close up and information.
