Today I had the pleasure to see some tough Volunteers at work.. Our little town has got an Estuary that is at the top of the Manukau Harbour, but over the years it has become very over grown with Mangroves.. So this hardy group called the Mudlarks formed and set to work to thin them out before it become completely silted over and unpassable.. They had to stop for a couple of years, but they are back in action and today was the 1st load out.. they cut them off, bundle and stack and then put them on this barge and take them to wharf in town and then put them through a mulcher and it is then sold to gardeners. These guys are all well into their 70's and possibly some in their 80's..
Great shot Julia. I love to see things like this - all in a days work for some, but really interesting for us to look at. You never know these things are happening unless someone shows us.
