Huhu Beetle..Prionoplus Reticularis

I was at @dide for a while today .. and he Hubby bought in a piece of wood with this lovely beetle on it.. As we have Natural History for our next Camera Club subject we are on the look out for bugs.. This is a native Huhu Beetle which is New Zealands largest native beetle .. It has jointed feelers. It can give a powerful nip with it large mandibles.
Would this be disqualified as a Natural History for being captured on a piece of chainsawed wood..
I really didn't know much about this beetle other than some people eat the bugs! His coat looks like leather and has fascinating designs!

Terrific detail on this huhu beetle. I think the chainsawed wood might eliminate him from natural history though. Fav

so mad at beetles in general, but somehow this one is indeed lovely.

Terrific capture. It would depend on your camera clubs definition of 'nature'. The International rules say that anything manmade can't be in the picture and although the wood isn't manmade the cut made by a chain saw is. Nature shots do get a bit picky though sometimes.

Well he has an amazing pattern & texture of his shell! You dont need to say where you found him!
