Kokako... Callaeas Cinerea

The Kokako is one of the birds that have been saved from near extinction due to the work of the Conservation on Tiri Tiri Matangi and neighbouring Islands..
The Kokako is endemic to NZ and is found in dense native forest.. The Kokako moves on the ground and hopes along the branches and only is ever seen doing short flights.. It eats insects, berries and leaves.. When @dide and I saw this lovely fellow he was chomping on a young shoot from our native cabbage tree.
They are around 38cm ,,
Great shot.

@yorkshirekiwi The last time it was just a brief glimpse but this time we were treated with him hanging around for a while.. and hearing his chorus was pretty amazing..

@365projectorgjenfurj Most of the birds on the Island had these ID bands .. two on each leg and they are read in aparticular order and it tells all the details of that bird..
