Came across this collection of cream cans the other day ..When I was a kid my father milked cows and also had a large lot of pigs which he fed with skim milk... and the cream was then put in cream cans and sent to the local Butter factory ( ours were not rusty).. The local trucking company came and took the cans of cream away and left empty ones ( Your supply # was painted on the side..) Seeing these can's has roused lots of memories...
Great 'from the shed' image. I love all the different rusty colours. Yep - remember these things well. Am I right in thinking we also had our big block of cheese and butter delivered in the empty cans?
The same for us Julz but ours had the days milk in them. When Harry was a boy he used to take the tractor & trailer loaded with however many milk churns needed for that day's milk & leave them on a stand at the end of the farm road. They were then collected by the Milk Marketing wagon & taken to the dairy for bottling.
Seeing those brings back lots of memories for me too although we had nothing to do with dairying ourselves. I've seen a lot of these recycled as mail-boxes in the bush.
