Walking Boy... by julzmaioro

Walking Boy...

Today I took a trip up to The City to my favourite shoe shop.. I took a wrong turn and came across this neat sculpture .. so I had to go back..Since coming home I have done a bit of research.. It is called Walking Boy and created by Ronnie Van Hout, It is 5.6 metres tall and made heavy steel armature and fibreplaster on the outside.. It took 18month to create and was commissioned by the Auckland Council and is worth $550,000.. It has only been inplace just a few weeks and by the looks of the worn grass around it is proving popular.. My Sister is standing beside him... and I like the long shadow he is throwing in the Midday sun..

Cool that you found him. He sure is tall and more obvious when you stand an adult next to him for scale.

@carole_sandford Yes so do I .. I like how his feet were in proper walking possision.. I saw in my research that there has been discussion as to why a boy and not a girl... I guess if they had done a girl it would of been ..'Why a girl and not a boy .. and a little expensive to do a pair..

Great to get the perspective with your sister next to him. Is there a special significance about walking boy or is he just a sculpture to make the park interesting? More Allbirds? I never have mine off my feet!

No not Allbirds this time.. some leather boots.. you may see a pic they are pretty funky.. lol..
The 'Boy' is walking with confidence into the future.. though apparantly some kids when asked said he was going to McDonalds..

Wow, what a great sculpture, I like it a lot. I guess whatever gender a single sculpture was leaves room for a pairing sculpture later on.
