View from the Office...Happy Cows...

Our girls are very keen to get onto the new block of grass .. that keen they nearly knock me over as I am winding up the wire.. The neighbours cows were looking over to our paddock looking very envious as 'Old McDonald' had not come to shift his fence yet..
Fresh grass! Oh my, don’t get hurt your first week as Farmer George’s right hand man!

The grass looks very green. Hope you don't get skittled by your girls, we don't want to see you with injuries too.

This is probably way naive, but is that little wire the “fence”? Can’t they just step over? Sorry, I’ve been around farms and even picked spuds in Idaho, but my only experience with livestock is the State Fair.

@shutterbug49 Yes that is the fence .. It is an electric wire .. they know that you don't touch it .. It is used when there is plenty of grass so they don't just tramp over it and waste it .. I see from googling that They were started in USA in the 1930's but then New Zealand company Gallagher took them on and spread them world wide..

A superb example of rotational grazing! How long does it take for your grass to come back and you can start the rotation once again?

Happy girls! Great rural capture.

@julzmaioro Thanks for the info. Sure makes it easy to move around. Our town uses goats to eat down the tall open grass areas and they have ungainly fencing to roll and move around. The goats are nimble jumpers.

It takes us about 21 days during the summer and a bit quicker in the spring.
