So the 'Lad's' have been busy the last few day's so here is an update on the Effluent Pond that is being 'built'.. It has to be able to hold 90 day's of effluent from the cowshed so thats 33mtrs x 20mtrs and 3 mtrs deep.. and you can see by the digger just how big it is ..
@jamibann Our swimming pool builder daughter and SIL are getting quite excited and ready to come and plaster it .. Think we could hold the Olympics here...
Very neat job Julz....Harry is very interested & impressed. So many more rules in NZ to keep up with! Your soil is quite a reddish colour.....looks pretty actually for a big pit!! Fencing it all off will be quite a job too! Expensive! 😨
@robz there is a treatment that is added so that its not smelly.. it is a resonable distance from the house.. and it is spayed on the pastures.. when its not too wet..
@julzmaioro Ahh - that all sounds so useful - even making your own fertilizer. And it's such a striking image with those wonderful colours! Thanks for your answer. :)
He is doing a great job here. It looks so well designed and built.
It will be great storage for you. I imagine you will be able to keep a full year in there and spread just once a year. Spreading manure is never a fun job but is so good for the soil.
Wow that is huge!! The farmer here was out all day yesterday with his tractor and a big storage tanker behind spraying all the surrounding fields. This morning there is a very strong "country" smell outside and even in the house!! Is this what living in the country is all about? I am a townie!! LOL!!
Beautiful photo with the vibrant background and the work in the front. How long does it take to decompose? Why 90 days worth? What happens with the effluent the rest of the year?
@shutterbug49 It has to be 90 days allowing for very wet days .. but as we are in hilly country it will be 'sprayed' on the pastures as liquid manure regular intervals ..
