Oh what a tangled web we weave, when at first we start to deceive..
This line from Sir Walter Scott jumped to my mind when I saw this very dense cob web covering the top of a Gorse Bush.. Gorse was introduced to New Zealand by Western Europe in around 1835.. conditions were very favourable and it thrived and become a real weed..
A tangled web indeed! Great shot of a web tangled around such a spiky bush. I love the smell of gorse, but it certainly can be a pain to get rid of!
A neat image showing how the nursery spiders protect their eggs, then eventually their young.
Wow - someone was busy! I wonder if that is a cocoon for some giant catepillar soon to be a giant butterfly. Terrific capture of a fascinating mess of something..
Funny to see this gorse....ours is out now in the Soring....yours is out now in the autumn!! A very dense cocoon type protection for a caterpillar insect to me.
@happypat Gorse seems to have flowers all year round .. no this is a spider web .. Nursery Spider fill with eggs at moment then it will be teaming with thousands of little spiders..
