New Year's Midnight Chicago Skyline by jyokota

New Year's Midnight Chicago Skyline

This photo was taken from the rooftop of our friends' home. We went up to photograph the fireworks over Lake Michigan, but they were too low in the sky this year. Although the Sears Tower was the focus of this photo, I like that the foreground buildings clearly situate the location where I was when the photo was taken, and brings memories of a delightful evening with friends. What I learned: I need to figure out how to use my new tripod before going out in the cold winter night. And I need more practice with night photography.
It captures the setting and brings me into the Sears Tower (it will never be Willis to me). I like the lighting of the black against the other buildings and the sky.

Georgeous black on black! Such an eye capturing picture!

Erick says to trim the building on the left a little more because it competes for attention with the Sears Tower.

Very nice night shot. I agree with above comment about cropping the unlit building on the left - it does kind of get in the way.

Take it from someone in north east who shoots a lot of skyline shots on tripod for long exposure - bundle up because it gets real cold in winter!
