Café Bergson in Oshpitzin

Day Two of the Jewish History in Poland Study Weekend.

Behind the last remaining working synagogue in Oświęcim, just outside of Auschwitz, is this cafe in which various cultural events and gatherings are held today. It is inside the Kluger Family House, where the last remaining Jewish person returned after WWII and lived alone until he died in 2000.

When renovated into the café, they kept various elements of the original house to retain remembrances of the family home. For more information on the family and their house: http://oshpitzin.pl/kluger-family-house/

I took photos at Auschwitz and at Birkenau but after spending hours looking at them, I couldn't bring myself to post them; the impressions of the day will remain within me and not as a quick image to share. They are easily found online. What I wanted to post is an image that shows connecting the past with a future. In fact, the JCC's password is "JewishFuture" and 90% of their volunteers are Catholic.
Great photo showcasing Jewish history.

Good that you have found this to put up to show that history will never be forgotten but today matters!

Lovely shot. It was one of the moral low points of our period on earth.

I can see your point about the non-posted photos! But I think this one really does the job connecting the history with the present and re-working and processing it in a new way. Beautifully framed too, this photo.
