A room where people gather, rest, and have refreshments during intermission. I like how the lights look twinkly even with just my 50 1.4 lens. This was obviously taken from the first floor, looking up. I was "verboten" from going upstairs. I'm wondering now if I should crop this to only focus on the chandelier, as this is a rather unusual perspective to shoot a large room. The proportions seem "off"
I think this is fantastic of the chandelier and the light flares really are a stand out. Given the bit of tilt, you could try cropping and see if you end up losing too much of the context and leading line or if it emphasizes the light and 'makes' the shot.
Very twinkly and elaborate... the details are beautiful, especially the light from the chandelier. These big shots are prone to being tilted and that is difficult to avoid in camera. I would try using the "lens correction" section of Lightroom. Click the "Auto" or "Full" option to let the wise LR take a crack at it. You may find that you lose a lot of the shot (via cropping, which LR all do, when it adjusts perspective), in which case just "undo" the correction and try the "level" button. Techie blather for a lovely shot.
@lsanderson55@cgribben@fntngrma@agedrunner@seanna@jgpittenger@ceilidh@888rachel@birdy@ubobohobo@kwind@taffy@rosiekerr -- thank you all for your generous comments and for looking close enough to see the twinkly lights! It was a quick shot from the first floor after I had been stopped by the opera guards from going up and I wanted to snap it before they also told me no photography. @taffy -- this is cropped a little, but when I cut out the stairs, it made the chandelier look strangely close to the floor because so much ceiling was there -- do you think I should cut some of the ceiling, too? @rosiekerr -- thanks for the directions on how to do this! As I read this, I remembered you saying that you always got more than you needed in your frame if you were going to fix it, and now I understand why. I haven't made the transition to LR yet but this may be the photo that gets me to try at least what you've taught me here. VERY appreciated!
@jyokota I think you need to use LR perspective correction. Aperture can't do it and this one is complicated enough that I think it would be hard to start from scratch. LR at least gives you move subtle tools. I don't think cropping alone can handle it, but it's a photo worth working on further. If you want to send me the RAW file, I can do a LR correct to show you if it's worth it.
