Looking straight up or down, it's closer to being round; whereas here I am sitting on the floor, head back on top of the elliptically shaped emblem, and the angle makes it look more elliptical. Likewise, Taffy took a shot she posted last week that shows more of an elliptical capture.

Oh that is pure magic and including the motto mural is a wonderful visual link between the top and bottom shapes and lines. What a great motto for a university too.
