I visited Dusseldorf International School where their aim is to help students lead a full and happy life as world citizens and leaders. The children spend FIVE hours in outdoor education every day, in all weather. I watched as children incorporated math learning with technology while digging in the dirt. An amazing opportunity for children.
I almost got to have a photowalk with @Vera but ended up flying from Munich to Dusseldorf instead of taking a train, thereby bypassing Stuttgart. Next time, Vera!
I have a friend teaching at an elementary/middle environmental school in Portland, OR and I'm always so impressed with their mission (sounds very similar!). She LOVES teaching too. Might be a good thing for all parties!
Reading about this in Finland, too. We're doing education all backwards - too much homework, not enough discovery and curiosity (and adversity - the fun kind!)
Fascinating to read the school having both a vision of their graduate AND a way to bring in outdoor education, rather than desk-sitting activity. And cool shot.
