Miyajima, the "Shrine Island" by jyokota

Miyajima, the "Shrine Island"

Famous for the Torii, it appears to be floating in the water at high tide; in fact, the entire shrine seems to float on water as you must use a boardwalk to go from building to building, and the water laps underneath. One of the most iconic images of Japan. A UNESCO World Heritage site, a designated National Treasure of Japan, the shrine plays important roles in the history, literature and culture of the country.

I'm wondering why we never visited this site when we travelled around Japan. Lovely to see it through you though.
