We're in NZ for a conference, and we took the ferry over to Russell to hear authors speak at various local venues. The church cemetery fascinated me because I had just visited the Hawaiian cemetery in Hilo and the comparison of the two is so remarkable. Headstones date back to mid-1800s. A very interesting way to learn more is found through a digital walk online at: http://hikoitahiwalks.co.nz/walks/christ-church-cemetery-walk/
I've made it to NZ! Staying here in Paihia for a conference, flew into Kerikeri. So far, I've taken a mini-cruise of the Bay of Islands, a ferry to Russell, and this morning we are going to the Treaty Grounds. Then a local photographer from the Photography Club is taking me around the area. Tomorrow, we drive up to Cape Reinga, Friday, we spend some time in the Waipoua Forest, and then heading back towards Auckland. Saturday, we'll head to Coromandel for two days. Any chance any of you or other 365ersl are in the vicinity and available for a meet up along the way? (Maggiemae, I know you are in south island but I couldn't come to NZ and not tag you.)
Oh you are in a beautiful part of the country .. hope the weather is being kind to you .. sounds like a busy schedual .. I am tired up this week but possibly when you come back to Auckland from Coromandel @dide and I may be able to meet in the city or somewhere julz-george@xtra.co.nz
@julzmaioro -- I fly home on Monday . . . I'll email you, too. Enjoying your country very much! Just spent two hours at the Treaty Museum -- beautifully built to impressively tell the stories.
So glad you got to see beautiful NZ, what a shame you didn't make to Australia too. There's a tectonic plate between the two countries and they're quite different.
Oh my word Junko Hawii one day New Zealand the next! You are the 365 champion jet setter! I loved my trip to NZ many years ago but didn't manage to get up to the Bay of Islands. Guess I will have to return! Lol! Beautiful scene! Fav!
@golftragic -- I'm sorry I can't get to Australia this time around. I did spend over a month there and visited Melbourne, Perth, Fremantle, Margaret River, Denmark, Kakadu, Port Douglas, etc., and more recently about a week in Fremantle. But still hoping to make it to Sydney and Tasmania, as well as many other places I haven't visited yet!
@julzmaioro@dide -- I fly out on Monday. I'll probably drive back from Coromandel towards Auckland by Sunday late afternoon/early evening. Would be fun to stop in and have coffee with you if I'm nearby on that route, or if you are in Auckland Monday morning. Otherwise, we'll have to make it a plan for next time!
@pamknowler -- Pam, by now, this is not news to you! :) I had a wonderful cruise on the Bay of Islands yesterday, and a photographer from the local club took me around for a delightful drive around the area today. I found so much to be fascinated by -- not only the mission, waterfalls, historic buildings, but also sheep! lambs! roosters! and even mailboxes.
What a charming view of this historical site. Fun to see... but also SO fun to read all the comments about your travels and your sights. Hoping you can catch up with 365ers... that is such fun!

@helenhall @happypat -- meeting up with fellow 365ers while traveling is pure delight!
