The funny thing (at least to us) is that hers was the first "test shot" for composition that she took upon arriving at the spot, and mine was the last shot I took as we were leaving and my tripod was already folded up and as I saw this composition I set the folded up tripod on the ground to grab this scene.

Thank you all for your generous comments! I am back in Chicago now and reflecting back on the wonderful week I had there with @Taffy. She was the most perfect host, providing such wonderful photo opps, processing feedback, and just lots of fun times. I added this comment to the narrative: The funny thing (at least to us) is that hers was the first "test shot" for composition that she took upon arriving at the spot, and mine was the last shot I took as we were leaving and my tripod was already folded up and as I saw this composition I set the folded up tripod on the ground to grab this scene.
@jgpittenger - thank you for your kind assessment! Coming from you, the master Milky Way photographer, it's especially meaningful. Did I tell you that I arrived in Beaver Island having forgotten my adapter? So I had a backpack full of beautiful lenses I couldn't use, and only two lenses native to my new mirrorless. But a trip to return to the Oregon Coastline will mean I have another opportunity to take a Milky Way with a wider lens, and under your tutelage.
@jyokota bummer re the adapter but your new camera seems to be working great for you. Lots lighter? I hope we get good clear skies next June though the two of you will have to drag me out of bed at the longest days of the year time!
@caterina I finally made the leap to a mirrorless camera. I sent you an email about Italian sites for dark skies and Milky Way possibilities so let's go in March!
I just love this! So funny that it was that last shot that turned out to be 'the one.' It was SO quiet here without you! So much fun hanging out together.
What a fabulous week with your friend @taffy and such lovely images. Great friends and photography adventures go so well together. This image is amazing! Fav

What camera have you bought?
