Tabletop Studio

Santa came early! I was feeling sad that just yesterday, I had missed my FIRST day of photography all year, and so close to the finish line. I had spent much of the day organizing my photos from my recent trip to China -- trying to delete and reduce from the thousands I took. Suddenly, it was past midnight. :( Waaayyyy past midnight, in fact. I was feeling completely uninspired today, and unhappy with myself. Then, my husband gave me my present early, set it up, and helped hold various filtering materials. Here's the set-up.

And here's the first photo: http://365project.org/jyokota/365/2013-12-21
I like seeing the prep work for photos. It gives me a better idea of how it's done.

@bekimorris -- thanks, Beki. My husband tried wax paper, tissue paper, and different kinds of paper to keep the glare off the puppets.

@jyokota That is very cool! I tried tinfoil and a white binder before. It worked merely ok.

@bekimorris -- this is just day one, so i anticipate I'll be trying a host of materials. I used a placemat for the base this time, but I have a stash of fabric and scarves that can also serve as base material and background. Such a great toy for the long, cold winter ahead. (On Monday, the low in Fargo is supposed to be -27 actual temperature!)

Aw, sorry, friend, but how awesome what you got. Sorting through trip photos is overwhelming, isn't it. Merry Christmas!!

@jyokota EWWWWW!!!!! Too bad it would be way to cold to try and take a picture outside. Because it would be amazing if you could take a picture of you throwing water in the air and it changing to snow!

Looks like fun and what a thoughtful husband!

@bekimorris -- that's such a funny idea! My get-pushed partner @stephomy has challenged me to capture "temperature" and your idea would work perfectly! I've been looking for a melting icicle this week, hoping to depict that at @gabberwocky 's suggestion.

What a lovely set up. Maybe it is the better insulation, but I don't see as many icicles as I did when a child.
