Sponge Boat

Tarpon Springs:
Tarpon Springs is a cute little city on central Florida’s Gulf Coast. Greek restaurants line waterfront and can also be found down many of the little side streets. The area was first settled by Greek sponge divers in the early 1900s. Along the water, the Historic Sponge Docks are a reminder of the once booming industry. While taking a wander around Tarpon Springs this sponge boat came in to dock. Given the decline in the industry many of the boats are now used more as a tourist attraction taking visitors out to the area where sea sponges are collected. I didnt have time to take one of these trips but hopefully I will get there on one of my many trips in the future.
Great shot and lots of sponges - what do they do with them?

@dide Dianne. Some are used for make up sponges, others are used for bath sponges and there were even sponges that you could put seeds in and grow plants/flowers without soil, cleaning sponges, painting sponges....pretty much anything you would use a sponge for.
