Kali Maa by kali66

Kali Maa

ok yes, I know this is really out-there
those who know me in person please avert your eyes about now lol Paul snapchap Everest @steampowered made me do it.

get-pushed from GiGI @gigiz this week is paganism, and this is Hinduism, but that is pagan right?

The goddess Kali, is both benevolent and destructive, I have been selective with the symbolism here as I didn't have a severed head nor a garland of hands, and didn't wish to appear naked. ....In her right arms she shows the Abhaya mudra(gesture of fearlessness) and Vara mudra(gesture of benediction) and in the left a bloody scimitar symbolising breaking away from material bondage and the removal of our ego , which is the main hindrance towards spiritual progress. Here she also holds the lamp of truth. The third eye represents wisdom, and she sees past, present, and future, . She is associated with the cremation ground (and it just so happens this image was seen and taken reflected in the door of the fireplace. the colours and paint-like splatters were all there) Kali is mother to all and helps one to realise the temporal nature of this world.

Quite something

and it is the Holi festival in India tomorrow march 27
FAV but I must warn you to be leery of what Paul @steampowered suggests. You never know what sorts of trouble he might lead you into :-) this is a fantastic response to your challenge.

@kali66 Ah... but ... "In Absentia Luci, Tenebrae Vincunt" ("In the absence of Light, Darkness prevails") which is the motto of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense in Hellboy (as any fule kno!)... even if the Latin isn't quite correct!

Fantastic image.

@steampowered not sure why but for some reason your comments make me feel defensive, I'll chew that over.
I am not familiar with the Hellboy reference but you could very well be describing the kaliyuga, the age when darkness is ascendant, darkness being to my mind ignorance, subconcious, retrograde motion...Kali is seen as being dark because of her wrathful aspect, but in fact it is darkness that she is destroying. I once asked a friend who had been in India for a kali mantra, she told me only to invoke Kali in times of dire need and then brace yourself because her truth will invariably be more than you bargained for and set you on your arse! @gigiz

@masosy @daisy thankyou Kate and Kathryn for your continued support.

I like your Kali.
In my view, Kali yuga is more of an uncomfortable than a dark age, mainly because everything moves so fast and its hard to keep up.

@writingdays thankyou for that Rohini, I obviously need to do more reading, we here in the west like to delve into the mysteriousness of India but probably get carried away.
