my get-pushed challenge from Mike Gifford this week was to capture a night time long exposure (>8 sec) of boats on the water and there needs to be a star in the sky. If no water available, then something interesting in the foreground with the star in the background.
I am kicking myself right now. This morning was a window of opportunity, the weather has cleared and the moon will set over the water just before dawn, I set my alarm for 5.30 am, but woke at around 4, literally like someone had shaken me awake. I looked out the window and yes, the moon was shining and there were stars, but did I get up out of my cosy bed? no I did not, I lazed thinking about what I would do when I got there. I finally got myself moving around 5am, and from home I could see the moonlight shining nicely on the sea, but , as there often is there were clouds thickening toward the horizon and by the time I reached the water the moon was all but obscured.
I believe my astral sub-conscious self was scene scouting while I was asleep and I woke myself at probably the best time for a photograph. when will I ever learn?
looks terribly dark here, (well duh, it was dark) more detail to be had viewed large
stunning shot. Although you didnt get what you hoped for I think there is something special here. The cloud formations create such a dramatic effect & the light coming through from the moon onto the water is very beautiful with a small silhouette of nature. Very powerful in large right enough :-)
Good for you. At least you got out there. I like the shot when viewed in large very much. Especially the way your eye goes thru a tunnel type vision into the photograph. The lighting creates such a great mood, the clouds like a lid on the sky
Haha, I love that 'when will I ever learn' conclusion... I say taht to myself way to often :)
This is a great shot, though! I just love that dramatic sky, the stripe of light on the water surface... Lovely silhouette of that sea stack (or maybe it's an island) out in the sea...
