licorice

these are roots of the licorice plant.
I had no idea. Do you not get distribution from regular sources on the west coast?

Great shot and composition. Come to think of it I've never harvested or bought licorice root. What do you use it for besides making licorice? Tea? Potpourri?

@dyanstevens tea, soothing for a sore throat, or chew on it, it has an addictive woody sweetness and once chewed it turns all fibrous and you can use it for toothbrush!

Zoethout in Dutch, sweet wood literally translate. Used to love to chew on these. Beautiful still life!

@overalvandaan and the Netherlands is famous for its black licorice, i was reading that it can have bad effects if eaten in large quantities, perhaps that is the reason for the salty stuff, rather than the very sweet western style licorice sweets
