I didn't have anything specific in mind for today's photo, so at lunch I headed to Warren just to see if anything would catch my eye. On a whim, I swung down to the Town Wharf thinking I could get a shot of a fishing boat or two since they always have some interesting character to them. That's when I spotted this father and son pair with dad teaching his boy to fish. Now, I simply will not photograph any kid without talking to the parents first, so I really didn't think this would turn out to be much of a candid shot. I explained the Photo a Day challenge to the kid's dad and he enthusiastically agreed to be photographed, and then the two of them went back to fishing. I must've taken 2-dozen shots, and much to my amazement, the kid completely ignored the camera! I was all of about 10-feet behind them snapping away, but the little tyke was completely engrossed in the task at hand. I was extremely pleased with the result.
Processing today was pretty minimal. I ran it through the detail light filter in Topaz Adjust, and then applied a gradient map in color blend mode for the black and white conversion. I added a sepia photo filter and then adjusted the levels slightly. A very minor tweak to brightness and contrast was the final touch.
What a great Dad! Reminds me of my husband and son many years ago... my son is now a fishing fanatic! But it has created an opportunity for lots of father/son time!
Thanks, everyone! I really didn't expect to get a shot like this, and I was amazed at how readily (and enthusiastically) he agreed to be photographed.
