Historic Blocks of Granite

A lengthy stretch of Great Road in Lincoln is lined with historic homes and buildings, some dating back to the late 1600s. Crossing one of the oldest roads in the state is a small brook that trickles out of Butterfly Pond, once the site of an 18th century grist mill. This time of year, very little water flows over the dam, and there's ready access to spots such as this that would be under rapidly flowing water in the spring and early summer. The location affords an interesting view of the late 18th century granite blocks that once held a wooden bridge along the original Great Road. The view leads to the modern stone bridge and the culvert that carries the brook beneath today's iteration of Great Road. While Butterfly Pond with its small dam, family of swans, and colorful fall foliage would make a very picturesque fall scene, I was more drawn to the deep contrast and interesting textures of these granite blocks and the distant bridge.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, boost black, boost white, protect highlights, and contrast. A levels adjustment and a sepia photo filter were added in PSE.
