A Refreshing Dip in the Ocean

What could be better on a winter day with cold temperatures and a strong wind than a brief dip in the Atlantic Ocean? For today's photo, I went to the Narragansett Town Beach for some photos of the "Preemie Plunge." This event is a fund raiser to benefit Project Sweet Pea, a charity that provides financial assistance to families with premature newborns struggling with the costs of intensive care. A couple of hundred brave souls showed up for this annual sprint into - and quickly out of - the water. For the record, the air temperature and the water temperature were identical today: 38° F (3° C).

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, and boost black. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-d2rL5qn/0/XL/2014%2003%2001_0139%20copy-XL.jpg
It's wonderful that the sand reflects the running legs, that you caught them in the air, and that it was for such a worthy cause.

@cejaanderson This is one of those rare cases where I like the color version better, but my theme this year is b&w, so... All of the color versions will be up on Smugmug and Flickr sometime this weekend, though.

@cejaanderson The full set of photos - in color, even! - are uploaded here: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Miscellaneous/Assorted-Photos The first 18 photos in that gallery are from this event. Just remember, sanity is highly overrated.
