When One Door Closes Another One Opens

To quote the Bard, "Come what come may, time and the hour run through the roughest day." Over the past several weeks, the conditions where I work have degraded to the point where I'm now considering early retirement. It's a decision I'll finalize tonight. It's not, by any means, an easy decision, and either way the road ahead will be stormy. I hope that's what I was able to convey in today's photo. The door is there, the path is open, but the door leads to stormy weather. Still, there's light through that door, and while this side is dry, this side is also shrouded in darkness. The decision won't be an easy one to finalize either way, but then, rarely are the important decisions easy one to make.
Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, boost white, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.
Very moody photo, Ron, but one as your say, with light beyond the door. I'm sorry about your job. Mine was that way too--in my case, too many outsiders who perceived themselves as experts in education jerking the chains of teachers and students alike. I'm much happier now that I'm retired, though I loved being a teacher. Please let us know what you decide.
I love the lighting in this, and the sense of a door opening, or perhaps closing. Very sad for the reason behind this beautiful image. Good luck to you in your decision and next steps.
