Tiny Shadows

There is a nice walking loop circling the Turner Reservoir on the East Providence and Seekonk line, and that's where I went for today's photo. True to form, as I returned to my car, I spotted these cyclists heading down Route 114A, and I liked the scene that was developing with the traffic heading towards Seekonk. What struck me as funny, though, were the tiny shadows beneath each rider. Interestingly, the time of day that color photographers try to avoid is perfect for high contrast black and white photography. As you can see from the shadows, this was taken right around noon.

Post processing started with a classic filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-VTK6kJ2/0/XL/2014%2004%2006_0027%20copy-XL.jpg
You're right--the shadows are a little funny!
