I love lighthouses. There's something extremely photogenic about these old buildings that dot the coastline. Most are now either abandoned or re-purposed since the adoption of GPS has all but eliminated the need for a visual warning in bad weather. There are over 20 of these beautiful buildings along the Rhode Island shore, although many of them can only be photographed from the sea. Save the Bay does run a series of lighthouse touring boat trips, and one of these days I'll sign up for one of them. The lighthouse you see here is the Pomham Rocks Light, visible from the East Bay Bike Path in East Providence. It's one of my favorites, and you can find it in a few photos scattered through this project.

Post processing started with a neutral filter in Topaz B&W FX. I adjusted color sensitivity sliders, adaptive exposure, regions, details, contrast, boost black, and protect highlights. A levels adjustment was added in PSE.

Here's the high res version in Smugmug: http://kannafoot.smugmug.com/Photo-Challenges/PAD2014/i-c2zfWwB/0/XL/2014%2007%2021_0023%20copy-XL.jpg
What a beautiful capture! I also have a soft spot for lighthouses! They are amazing buildings and have been so important throughout history! So photogenic and full of interesting history! x
