I just returned home to Kansas after a week-long road trip to and from the Northwest to see my daughter graduate from the University of Oregon. Though I captured dozens of beautiful scenes, it wasn't until our family stopped for one last meal on the road that I discovered this special moment. I saw this gorgeous daddy/daughter pair and their reflection from the gas pump while at The Oasis Travel Center in Colby, Kansas. I then mustered up my courage and asked for permission to take their photo. Permission granted. View large for better appreciation. Thanks for stopping by. :)
Kareen, this is wonderful! I love that you saw this and asked them for the shot. I have yet to be so brave! Anyway, the light, reflection, and especially the tenderness between them makes this a great image. Did you send the daddy a copy?
@pflaume Thank you, Lisa. I appreciate your comments. I asked the dad if he wanted me to send him one, but then neither one of us had a pen or business card on us and he just said, "That's o.k." I wish he had a copy though because I think they both look beautiful in this.
@annied Aww, thanks, Annie! I'm glad you appreciate it. I think their facial expressions are just gorgeous! And I couldn't resist asking permission to take the shot! :)
@kareenking That's too bad that he doesn't have a copy. I am curious. Did you ask him to look away or just to be like he was. So often people's inclination is to look at the camera and smile which would make a totally different (and not as interesting) image. Just saw this large. So good! Fav
@pflaume Lisa, I asked him to go back to doing what he was doing, which was looking the opposite direction as me. I totally didn't want it posed. Basically, I captured him just as I saw him to begin with. He was such a great sport about it. My biggest regret was to not get his contact info to send it to him. I think he was feeling a tad awkward and I didn't want to push it. Or make him think I had any ulterior motives.
@pflaume Oh, and thanks for the fav, Lisa! I appreciate it. This was my favorite photo out of all the dozens of waterfall, rainbow, mountain, river, and nature scenes I saw in Oregon. And this was just at a truck stop in Kansas. :)
