Today I did some more reading on Amendment One in North Carolina. I was baffled by some of the comments that I read on message boards.. calling homosexuals "abominations" and saying homosexuality is exactly like beastiality.
All of this was based upon the Bible! I have no idea what God they pray to because the God I know would not allow such hatred.
I looked at my hands today. I looked at them, looked at how similar they were to any other hands. You can't even tell that it's my hand. It could be anyone's hand. And that's how we all are. We're human. Not to mention, as an American, I feel as though our country is supposed to stand for equal protection under the law.
The fact that same-sex couples continuously get their rights taken from them.. that just makes me so sad. But look at the Civil Rights Movements of the 60's. They faced oppression and they beat the odds.
I'm sure if we get enough hands, we can join them together and truly unite ourselves, then our states, then our entire nation.
@rvm unfortunately there's still a lot of minds to be changed but i think that the battle has just begun. the public outrage has increased as the news of the amendment has spread across the states! but, after obama's statement supporting same-sex marriage, i definitely see changes for the future of the U.S. if he serves a second term. at the end of the day, if you think about it, the world now has a) biblical marriage and b) legal marriage.. two different things! i think if more people would recognize that, not only oppression would decrease, but hopefully their hatred would decrease.
@rvm as far as the UK is concerned, i've heard talk about ireland having a petition at the moment? i'm not sure though if that's british ireland or.. ireland ireland.. haha
Great pic to illustrate your sentiments.
