Louise and Ken's Golden Hour Flower

Ken recommended that I go out at about 5:30pm to catch the Golden Hour in San Diego so I did. Today's photos were taken at that time. They should also have exif info. @Weezilou @mikegifford
Wonderful light on this Kathy

Ha, Kathy! I only went to the thread, but after looking at this photo, I wanted to come to your site to say it's beautiful! Well, what a surprise you had waiting for us here! This, I think, is most representative of the hour! You caught those lovely shadows on the wall, and the petals have shadowing as well; it's lovely! Did you notie Mike Gifford's comment about "practice" being a lifelong habit... You've already come a long way! Bravo!

@Weezilou Ken, thank you much. I was real pleased with all my photos tonight. There were a couple more very special ones but I'm already a day ahead! Thank you for the compliment and also for the advise. Kathy

@ceilidh thank you Margaret. I'm not feeling well and had to drag myself out tonight but I'm glad I did! Kathy

@kathyboyles I know you really want to make this work, so at the risk of belaboring it, may I make a couple of suggestions? Stand in your yard at the suggested hour and look around you to see what the sunlight is striking. If you photograph the item from behind, you'll capture a thread of light in the outline, a halo effect. If you have the sun behind you, be sure not to cast a shadow on your subject. If you shoot a photo with the sun to your side, you'll get a nice light & shadow effect. I truly understand that shooting the flowers is *hard work* as you need to get down there with them (as you did with the 2 white flowers.) Your colors are lovely. I, too, couldn't resist a daisy that was not bathed in light, but it turned out to be a lovely picture *during* the golden hour, but not taking advantage of the sun. Go to the top & look again at Kathy's 2 examples and see where the sunlight hits her subjects. That's the key. I see you trying harder than anyone here, so here's a pat on the back to encourage you to look around you...maybe even cross the street to someone else's yard if yours is in the shade at that time. When it happens, you'll see it in an instant! I've seen you're not a quitter and have a lot of spunk & determination! Here's to you and the upcoming golden hours!
