This is a picture of my late Aunt Margaret, my father's sister. It is her graduation picture from nursing school. She was in the service during World War II -- she flew to the Pacific with supplies and equipment, and back to the U.S. with patients. My dad had it enlarged for me (he carried the original in his wallet when he seved in Korea). I keep her picture in a frame on my desk at work. Sort of a reminder of what is most important to me, both in my career as a nurse and my family life. She passed away from cancer almost 25 years ago but her children (my cousins) are great about staying in touch.
September 2015 - I dropped my Nikon L22 at the arboretum (on asphalt!) and it's definitely broken. :(
October 2014- finally reached 365 photographs and it...
Hi Elyse - thanks for the lovely comments! what a beautiful portrait. It amazes me how poised the women always looked in that era - yet how much stress she must have had ! An era full of strength !
love everything about this, your photo of your Aunt's photo, how you explained its importance in your life; i believe this is one of the best shots you have posted here. very powerful, has a lot of emotional impact. fav.
She's beautiful, Elyse. She must have been a kind and wonderful person. What a great role model. My husband was in the military and knows how important that people like your sister are. Beautiful photo.
@ccfolk I thought of this photo when I saw the one of you with your father. Dad and I had this copy made. The original is wallet sized and in need of some TLC because of its age and being in my dad’s wallet. But I like that the copy captured how it’s a little worn. She helps me to remember what matters.
