I recently moved from Tucson, Arizona to Modesto, California.
I finished my Ph.D. in Political Science focusing on American Government and International Relations. I have a...
Your expression, pose and outfit look great and go together really well. I think the symmetry and the sunniness of the stairs create a different mood. I would like to see you next to an urban wall, or walking amongst some warehouses at dusk.
You are very pretty Kerri. Love the perspective of this shot! I don't have any recommendations... sorry. I'm not much good in taking my own pc. Your's turn out great :D
What a gorgeous photo - Hope you're not waiting for wise words from this amateur photographer - I just love what you've done here. I haven't a clue how or why you would want to improve it. Gorgeous.
I don't know anything about taking selfies, so I'm not sure what good my advice is, but...I would try lots of poses and lots of expressions and just keep taking them! The beauty of digital. That said, you look great!
I have two suggestions (which you knew you'd get from me). I would have cropped the photo just a tad wider on the left side to include more of your shoulder. That way, it would actually look like you were leaning against the edge of the frame. As it is now, you look like you're falling out of it. I like how tight you cropped your hat, though. That was perfect.
My other suggestion is to shoot a little earlier in the day so you don't end up with the shadow from your camera on your foot haha. I bet nobody else even noticed it, but it was the *first* thing I noticed. Sorry.
You did great with this. Really. Had any good inspiration lately? :D
I agree with @moonpig > Your body language does not fit the nice sunny lighting and the openness of the area. I know you have followed Jason's (Jason Barnette (@jasonbarnette)) series of self-portraits and in his he kept it as a B&W so you could see the expression and not be distracted by colour. In yours you could leave yourself in selective colour and do the rest as B&W or you could go with a happier expression and body language :)
@jasonbarnette Yeah, that camera shadow was the first thing I noticed on most of my photos from today! It was in several and I tried to use processing to remove it but don't know how. I tried several crops but cropping the shadow out was awkward.
I see what you mean about the shoulder crop. I did that in post processing so I can change that.
great selfie - my daughter occasionally bullies me into sorting out shots - for that shadow she'd tell me to use clone or heal - basically find some of the pants colour from next to the shadow and cover up the shadow with that colour, same with the shoe and the steps - it's fiddly and you have to do it in bigger than 100% so it looks good at 100%
Really, I think it was a great idea, and everything about looks good. The one suggestion I would have is to get farther away from the steps, as their color is much like your skin tone, and I believe it pulls the viewer away in that direction.
First of all you're beautiful..second i agree Rick..the stair is what I noticed first..Harry has some good suggestions...I would like to this picture in b/w.
I think it amazing and I also find the colouring of the steps so close to your skin colour that it is confusing. I love the contrast between your clothing/expression and the sunny environment. Looks like you should be in New York so it piques my curiosity re "how come she's not?"
You're beautiful, Kerri! Great selfie. No suggestions from me but I think the other suggestions are good things to try. That's what I love about photography; to keep learning and improving; it's just fun!
beautiful Kerri! I think this would have been awesome in BW....would have taken the emphasis of the color of the stairs and onto you...love the outfit!
Fab selfie! I love your expression and the overall composition is great. I like how you are off to the left, but I would have moved the camera little bit more to have your whole body in the shot. Fabulous all around. You definitely should do more. :-)
Great expression. I would agree with the b&w suggestions...the red lips and blue eyes are fab though...maybe those could be selectively coloured. Hard to say until you try it out.
Kerri, you are so gorgeous! I'm not terribly experiences at selfies, but I do agree with most of the advice above. I did notice the shadow of the camera on your foot, and I think you would have had better light later in the day. But what a fabulous first attempt!!!
I looked at the black and white first. Both are terrific, but I like the black and white. Very good pose, and expression. Terrific all the way around. I agreed with Rick and the distance. Good advice
The sunny day does make you look less threatening. Maybe putting it in black and white would allow you to play the contrast and make it less sunny. You could do some selective coloring on your lips too. It's a really great selfie though!

It`s a very nice selfie. I do love that lady ( kidding again ? )
Have you thought of converting it to B/W or even sepia as this would fit in well with your outfit.
You could also try selective colouring / colour popping on your lips and eyes as this will have even more impact
