These two little guys have both been rejected from their mums for different reasons. Things were going great for Guinea and her mum Baabara until Baabara accidently pooped on Guinea. This changed the smell of Guinea and seems to have created a divide between her and her mum. Guinea would Baa and chase after Baabara, while Baabara would push her away.
Snow was suckling from his mum for the first few hours, but in the evening Maary left him and a while later when Snow got back over near his mum and tried to feed from her, Maary also pushed him away.
These things happen. Both Baabara and Maary have had babies before and happily fed them until they no longer needed their mums. They were excellent Mums. This year however. We have not been so lucky.
We have now lost two of our four pet ewes. The two that passed away were carrying multiples. One a set of twins and the other triplets. Many in the area have experienced similar issues this year with their ewes that are carrying multiples. Life is so sad, but we celebrate the wonderful lives they had.
And now we work to try and keep Guinea and Snow alive and healthy.
Today I am thankful for...
1. The small blessings of the opportunity to see life flourish and grow. It is sad that these lambs have been rejected by their mums, but there is hope.
2. An understanding workplace who granted me leave to look after these gorgeous little animals in their crucial first few days.
3. Everyone who has given a hand to ensure these little guys have the best possible start and opportunity to stay alive and thrive.
So sad these little guys have been rejected. I would gladly take care of them. I love baby animals...so precious. Not sure if I could live on the farm with animals dying...too difficult for me to take.
What a sad sad narrative. I hope these two survive and that you have no more losses. It is so hard to feel responsible for animals and their well-being, especially as they can't explain what is wrong or how they are feeling.
